Tea and the Art of Friendship

I’ll be having a tea party shortly. I’m thinking myself and five others, though theoretically some of those others might be couples, so that extends it a bit.

It’s going to cost me $5 to hire the venue. Not bad, I think.

I’ve selected Darjeeling as the tea of choice. Which Assam? Actually, that’s up to the participants. I don’t want to be too prescriptive.

I expect fine bone china teacups; and by that, I mean I expect everybody to supply their own.

The cake will be tremendous. It’s this one: an English Breakfast Date Cake. My friend Verity (@joiedetea) tweeted those words and sent me on a frenzy of googling.

So, there you have it. A fine Darjeeling in bone china; a quality cake, and great freinds. At a cheap venue.

I can hear you ask, dear reader: What is this venue? Is it near me? Can I come? What if I’m allergic to dates?

And here’s my answers:

“Skype”, “yes”, “yes”, and “too bad”.

Yes, I’ll be paying Skype $5 to allow me to connect to multiple video feeds for one event. If you have a desire to attend,  Skype, a webcam, and can obtain some Darjeeling and a nice teacup, then let me know. You MUST bake yourself the cake.

I’ll be holding it on a Sunday Morning at 6:30am ACST.  July 17th. That means if you’re in Europe, Saturday afternoon, in the USA it’s Saturday evening.

So, who’ll be coming? I expect the good folks from Teatrade/Leafbox Tea. Other bloggers here like Ken & Geoff. Perhaps Verity (though it’s slightly inhumane pre-dawn suggestion for the mother of a toddler.)  Perhaps that crazy pair in Temecula, California? I’d love to see great supporters of mine on line, such as Verna or Nicole. Meredith? The TeaBlaggers?Maybe twitter friends old and new, like @MayKingTea and @littleMewBrew, or even the @Mad_Hatter_Tea himself. Dare we hope for dear old Milly or Erik?

If you’re listed above, or you know who the hell I’m talking about, or you’d love to be part of it to find out what sort of mad nutter I am, then please message me on Tea Trade.

  1. I’ve done a brief search of our time differences, and I think you have Europe and the US times backwards, but of course I’m not entirely sure.

I think 6:30 am in Adelaide is afternoon in the US and late evening here. I should be here regardless, but am curious if I have counted correctly.

  2. The time difference between Eastern Standard Time, as in NYC and Adelaide, Australia is 13:30 hours.
At 06:30 am Sunday morning Adelaide time it will be 5:00 pm Saturday on the East Coast.
2:00 pm Saturday on the West Coast
    11:00 pm Saturday in Germany.

    Should be fun, more later,
    J.

  3. I am going to give it ago but opt of dessert. I may only be audio my laptop with camera has terrible speakers and I can never hear a thing but I have great sound on my iPad but no camera. We will have to see. This is very exciting and hope to be the first of many, I promise not to be as articulate as I may on occasion appear to be online but we shall see, I can not promise there will be no sounds of my tea loving 4 year old and the pitter patter of my “shaved cat” and the other who is not. Perhaps the hubby will join as well we will have to see. Hope to see you all soon. 🙂

  4. So glad you had such a lovely gathering yesterday. Sorry I missed the cat. And the rest of you. Looking forward to “meeting” you all next time. I will consider what unusual pets or backdrop I can provide next time.

  5. Nice to be on Tea Trade I think. At times I am too opinionated as alienated also,I should just read and not say much. I am too easily offended, it is an illness.

I have ordered some Darjeeling and looking forward to receiving and trying it.

    Best to all.
